4 Tips to Prevent Insect Infestations Inside Your Home

infestationIf you’re a property owner, you should know that it’s important you do whatever it takes to keep your home and family safe. In addition to having a roof over your head, however, you’re going to have to do a bit more to prevent insect infestations within your home.

Because pest infestations can rapidly grow, you have to take preventative measures as soon as possible. Even a single female cockroach can produce between four and eight egg capsules in her lifetime. Each of those capsules can have up to 48 eggs inside it for a rate of up to 384 eggs in a year. Don’t let cockroaches or any other kind of pest take over your home.

Here are some great ways to prevent household pest infestations.

  • Cover trash bins and empty them often — Pests love garbage, especially when it’s piled up high. If you are letting your garbage peak out the top, that is essentially a welcome sign for bugs. In addition, be sure to recently take the trash out of your home and clean out your bin every once in a while.
  • Keep your kitchen spotless — Bugs don’t need mountains of trash to infest a home. All they need is some forgotten crumbs or liquid spills anywhere in your home and these bugs will begin to infest your home. Make sure to regularly clean up after yourself and thoroughly clean your kitchen (and home) every once in a while.
  • Keep bushes, mulch, and wood piles away from your home — Make sure to regularly take a look outside your home for potential insect swarms, too. Pests, especially termites, thrive in moist, wooden areas, so be sure to keep anything like that far away from your home’s physical structure.
  • Regularly inspect your windows and door cracks — The easiest way for pests to get into your home is to leave small cracks in your foundation open. Take a look around your home and seal any cracks that you might find.

Although it’s your responsibility to do everything you can to prevent these insects from causing problems inside your home, you can’t do everything on your own. If you’re experiencing a serious pest infestation, hire an exterminator to come in and take care of it. If you’re in need of high quality pest control services, contact Dixon Pest Services.
