Every once in a while, we hear from customers who are curious about Dixon Pest’s “green” or organic pest control options. We thought we’d answer some frequently asked questions.

What does “green” pest control really mean?

This is an important question, and not one that’s easily answered.

There are no regulated definitions or standards for “green pest management.” That means anyone calling themselves “green” doesn’t have to do much to back up that claim. (You may have heard of this phenomenon; it’s called “greenwashing.”) While you may have an idea of “green” in your head -- fewer chemicals, organic components -- that may not be what’s actually being offered from self-described green pest control companies.

That leads us to a better question.

What does “green” pest control mean to Dixon Pest Services?

You might say we’re “green” and eco-friendly from the outset. We’re always striving toward cleaner pest control, including minimizing the use of chemicals in our treatments.

We practice what’s called “integrated pest management.” which is a process that solves pest problems while minimizing risks to people and the environment.

That means our chemical pest control methods are environmentally friendly and responsible. We also emphasize preventive maintenance and outdoor cleanup for our customers: placing firewood away from the house, cutting back long branches on trees that are close to the house, removing standing water. Our customers’ front-end pest-control measures help to curb the likelihood of an infestation.

Here are some examples of additional preventive measures you can take:

  • Eliminate excessive mulch in planting beds next to the home
  • Seal gaps around doors, windows, and plumbing and electrical openings
  • Keep soil from touching wood siding
  • Place garbage receptacles away from the home and keep them covered

At Dixon Pest Services, we help you find environmentally friendly do-it-yourself pest solutions and self-help instruction and guidance. But we’re the first to admit these methods just can’t be as thorough as the more traditional chemical intervention.

Like you, we care about the effect we’re having on the environment and we take it seriously. Get in touch with us today to find the right pest-control solution for you.
