What Really Happens to Mosquitoes Upon Winter’s Arrival?

Most people have always thought that mosquitoes die off during colder months. Unfortunately, this is a common misconception. Each mosquito species survives the winter differently, however when temperatures drop below 50 degrees it is common for most of them to find places to hibernate. They find shelter in places such as storm sewers, attics, basements, and animal burrows.

No matter what time of year it is, Dixon Pest Services wants to remind you to be cautious while spending anytime outdoors, while practicing the following mosquito-safe habits.

  • Inspect your home and property for any water that could possibly be storing mosquito eggs.
  • Unclog gutters and repair broken pipes on the outside of your home.
  • Make sure all trash cans are sealed.
  • Don’t forget to apply insect repellant when spending time outdoors.
